What data sources does ZeroTurb use?

ZeroTurb uses multiple data sources including: real-time pilot reports (PIREPs) from NOAA Aviation Weather, ECMWF (European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts) wind and atmospheric data, lightning strike data, and winds aloft forecasts. These sources are combined using AI algorithms to create comprehensive turbulence forecasts.

How far in advance can I check turbulence forecasts?

ZeroTurb provides turbulence forecasts for flights today and tomorrow. You can view forecasts up to 12 hours in advance on our turbulence maps, with data updated every 6 hours based on the latest ECMWF model runs.

Is ZeroTurb free to use?

Yes, ZeroTurb is completely free to use. We believe everyone should have access to turbulence forecasts to fly with more confidence. The service is supported by donations and advertisements.

Can turbulence forecasts predict all turbulence encounters?

While our forecasts are highly accurate, no turbulence prediction system can forecast 100% of turbulence encounters, especially clear air turbulence (CAT). ZeroTurb provides the best available predictions based on current meteorological data, pilot reports, and advanced forecasting algorithms to help you fly with greater awareness of potential turbulence zones.

What is the difference between light, moderate, and severe turbulence?

Light turbulence causes slight, erratic changes in altitude or attitude. Moderate turbulence is similar but of greater intensity with changes in altitude/attitude but the aircraft remains in positive control. Severe turbulence causes large, abrupt changes in altitude/attitude with large variations in airspeed. ZeroTurb displays these intensity levels on our maps and forecasts to help you understand what to expect.
