What is the Shamal wind?

The Shamal is a strong northwesterly wind that blows across the Arabian Gulf, carrying sand and dust from Iraq and Kuwait. These winds typically occur in two seasons: a shorter period in winter and a longer, more intense season from June through August. During major Shamal events, visibility can drop dramatically and flights may be delayed or diverted until conditions improve.

When is the best time to fly through Dubai?

November through March offers the most pleasant conditions with lower temperatures and reduced dust storm risk. Summer months (June-August) bring the highest Shamal activity and extreme heat that can affect takeoff weights.
